THE WORLD OF THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL IS MOVING
REMINDER: As reported below, this old server for this site is shutting down on June 30. Update your bookmarks to point to the new address, www.boldbeautifulfan.com, today!
May 25: After more than 13 years of being hosted on Compuserve's OURWORLD servers, my fan site for THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL is moving to a new host. The decision isn't entirely by choice. Compuserve, which was acquired by American Online many years ago, has decided to shut down the original Compuserve Classic service, which includes the ourworld.compuserve.com domain, on June 30. So as of that date, the URL this site resides on will end.
In thinking about it, though, this isn't really a bad thing. I've often thought about getting away from the ourworld servers over the years and moving to a real host, and in fact, the last couple of years of images and update archives have resided on a dedicated host. The only thing that kept me clinging to ourworld was the number of links to the site and the familiarity among my site's regular visitors. But now, Compuserve has not given me a choice, so I'm taking this as the kick in the butt I needed to make up my mind to move. In that vein, over the next month, I'll slowly begin mirroring content on the ourworld servers over to my boldbeautifulfan.com domain. That way, by the time the "witching hour" arrives, I'll be ready.
And the move is just the first step. Being on a dedicated host will let me leverage web technologies that I could never implement on Compuserve, giving a fresh look to the features you've come to enjoy on this site for years. Some of the changes will come with the move and some will come after. But once they are in place, I think you'll like what I have in mind.
So sit back and join me on this next step in this web site's history. If you liked what I've done over the years at the Compuserve site, I think you'll really like what's coming up as I make this move. So check back here in the weeks ahead to see what I've moved and when I've moved it. And thanks as always for visiting this site.
