THE
BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL FAN EVENT 2005

On
August 13, 2005, B&B fans from all over the world arrived at the Sheraton
Universal Hotel in Universal City, CA for the 2005 Fan Events celebrating
the daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful. Yours truly, Scott
Novick, was there for both the "Buns, Bagels and Breakfast" event
in the morning and the Fan Luncheon in the afternoon.

The
day's events started with the eighth B&B "Buns, Bagels and Breakfast"
event, where some of the B&B stars join fans for a morning of games, questions
and answer sessions, autographs, photos and of course, breakfast. Justin Torkildsen
(Rick) came out first and introduced the other actors there for the morning:
John McCook (Eric), Lorenzo Lamas (Hector), Maeve Quinlan (Megan), Drew Tyler
Bell (Thomas), Winsor Harmon (Thorne) and Ronn Moss (Ridge). Some highlights
included:
After
a short break to allow the actors and fans at the breakfast to get downstairs,
the B&B Fan Luncheon started. John and Justin acted as emcees. They first introduced
two generations of the Bell family, B&B Executive Producer/Head Writer Bradley
Bell and his mother, B&B co-creator Lee Phillip Bell. The rest of the cast
followed (and can be seen in my photo album above in the order they came out
in). Some highlights of the luncheon and the autograph/photo session that followed
were:
- Katherine
Kelly Lang (Brooke) sang a few bars of Brooke and Ridge's song, "Unforgettable,"
for the fans, adding that the song described B&B's fans as well.
- Still
recovering from injuries, Darlene Conley (Sally) made her way to the stage
in a motorized vehicle and got up on stage with help of a cane. She assured
fans that her healing process was going well, so she looked forward to being
able to walk without a cane in the future. She also noted how good it felt
to be there among B&B's many fans.
- John
McCook (Eric) played piano and sang a song he wrote about B&B and its
fans.
- A
highlight clip from the last two years of B&B was shown.
- A
moving tribute to B&B co-creator William J. Bell, who passed away on April
29, was shown.
- During
the photo/autograph sessions, I finally got to meet Dan McVicar (Clarke) in
person for the first time. Dan's been a big supporter of this web site for
years, and we've exchanged emails during that time, but I never had the chance
to meet him in person. Dan complimented me on the site, and we also talked
about his recent appearances in some comedy sketches on "The Late Late
Show with Craig Ferguson," which airs on CBS each night following David
Letterman's program.
- Since
I was using my camcorder for a time instead of my still camera, Schae Harrison
(Darla) decided to liven things up for the camera when I was with her and
Darlene: she told everyone, on camera, that I was B&B's best fan, since
I was inviting the cast over for pasta dinner that night. I also told Darlene
how many visitors to my site and message board often ask how Sally is; she
told me to tell them that I saw her and she's on the mend, and that she appreciates
all the fans who care about her and are pulling for her.
- A
few fans saw my name tag and asked if I was THAT Scott from THAT
web site. It was a pleasure to meet all those folks, who got to put a face
behind all the words and work on the web. There were also some who never heard
of me or The World of B&B, although that's probably changed in some cases
after I shared my stories of the site's evolution over the past 10 years.
In
all, it was a fun and eventful day, as well as an excellent chance for fans
of the show and the stars to get to meet each other. Kudos go to Cathy Tomas,
Director of the B&B Fan Club, for putting the whole day together, and to
the stars and staff of B&B for making the day such a success.
