Ridge lays down the law about Donna.
Steffy rushes into her dad's office and gives him a big hug. Ridge asks what that's about. She praises him for the work he did on Katie's dress and tells him that everyone in the building is talking about what he did. He just wishes he could do more, since he Katie is apparently running out of time. Steffy asks if he heard any news about Katie's big night. Ridge says he didn't, but Steffy is sure it was special with Katie wearing the dress he made from the heart. She thanks him for coming through for Katie, despite his issues with Donna. Speaking of Donna, Ridge gets a call from marketing that his new step-mom has been offering marketing "suggestions." Steffy doesn't see anything wrong with that, since Eric has always been open to input, but Ridge fears that Donna thinks the ring on her finger gives her the right to bypass the chain of command around here. Still, he doesn't want to rag on Donna tonight given what her family is going through. Steffy thinks that's a good idea. However, Ridge warns that Katie's tragedy doesn't change his feelings about Donna's involvement in this company, and their employees need to know that. Steffy suggests he make that clear to the employees, but Ridge kids that he might delegate that job to her. Steffy says he'd have to promote her out of shipping first, and that's not happening. She happens to like working there, especially with the new guy, Marcus.

Steffy tells her dad about Marcus
Ridge asks who Marcus is. When she tells him that he's a new guy that her granddad hired, Ridge is surprised, since he usually knows when they promote one of their interns into an entry-level position like that. Steffy explains that Marcus wasn't an intern and didn't even know anything about the fashion industry. Ridge is now even more surprised that Eric would hire someone like that. Steffy tells him that Marcus is cute and nice, even with his lack of fashion knowledge, and she threatens to go back to London if Ridge gets her new friend fired. Ridge says he won't do that as long as the guy is doing his job, but he still finds it odd that Eric hired the young man. Steffy lets slip that Marcus's hiring was Donna's idea. She thinks the guy is cool and a good worker, but she doesn't think he'd be there without Donna's help.

Marcus finds out about Katie's condition.
Meanwhile, Donna comes down to shipping to check on Marcus, who is busy organizing some invoices for Eric to review. Donna tells him she's proud of him, but then she says she has to be going. Marcus asks where she's off to, so she tells him she has to go see her sister. Marcus assumes she means Brooke, but she tells him that she's going to see Katie. Marcus recalls that Katie's the one with the new heart. At the mention of the heart, Donna breaks into tears. Marcus asks what's wrong, so Donna tells him that Katie is dying! Marcus tried to comfort Donna. He recalls the few times he met Katie and remembers how amazing she seemed. Donna agrees that Katie is their family's heart as she sobs that they're losing her. Marcus wishes he had more time to get to know his aunt better. Donna tells him that she had hoped for that, too.

Donna tells Marcus that she should be taking care of him.
Donna stops her pity party and tells Marcus that she should be taking care of him and not the other way around, since she's his mother. She wants him to have someone looking after him, like Storm did for her and her sisters. Marcus says he can take care of himself, but Donna thinks he deserves to be cared for, and she's sorry she didn't do a better job of it. Marcus reminds her that she got him this job, giving him a chance to be close to everyone without their knowing he's her son. Donna advises that they have to keep that secret a little longer, at least until Eric gets to know him. Marcus wonders if that will happen with Eric in the Executive Suite and him down here, but Donna reassures him and tells him that she's glad he came into her life now. She holds his hand, not realizing that Steffy is watching through the window.

Dr. Patrick thinks Bridget's findings might help Katie.
Upstairs in Eric's office, Brooke watches as Bridget continues to search on her laptop for something that can help Katie. Brooke assures her that she's done all she can, but Bridget still feels like she's missing something, and she has to find it for Katie's sake. Just then, she looks over Katie's latest lab reports and sees something that might be the answer she's been looking for! She calls Dr. Patrick and asks him to come over right away. Soon after, Dr. Patrick arrives and looks at what Bridget is showing him about the protocols they've been using to help Katie. Bridget explains to her mom that the protocol, based on everything they know, should have helped Katie, but it didn't. But if they change the protocol slightly in the way she just showed Dr. Patrick, it might make a difference. Dr. Patrick agrees with Bridget's assessment, but he worries that there's a chance that it might be too late to try this given how far Katie's rejection of the heart has progressed. Still, he thinks it's worth a try, so he takes the printouts that Bridget gave him so he can get to the hospital and have his team prepare the new protocol so it's ready when Katie arrives.

Brooke and Bridget worry that Katie won't go to a hospital.
Bridget tells Brooke that they have to get to Nick's right away so they can be there when the ambulance arrives. As soon as Bridget mentions an ambulance, Brooke recalls Katie's wish not to be taken to a hospital. Bridget points out that this could be a chance for Katie to live, but Brooke says that they have to respect Katie's wish not to die in a hospital. Bridget says that her gut is telling her that this will work, but they have to move now. Brooke asks if the treatment is given with an IV. When Bridget says it is, Brooke asks if they can give Katie the IV at home. Bridget says they can, so they rush to tell Dr. Patrick of their change of plans.

Katie closes her eyes and goes silent.
Meanwhile, at the Marone mansion, Katie lies in bed and giggles to Nick that she can die a happy woman after that kiss. She asks Nick if he can get her out of this dress and find her robe, but Nick says he can do better than that and brings her a pair of Laker pajamas that he bought for her. Katie remarks that she'll never have to take these off. As she tells Nick what a great night this was, her breathing starts to become labored. She asks Nick if they can stay like this for a while. Nick holds her hand and assures her that he's not going anywhere. After helping her off with her dress, Nick looks at it and says it's a beautiful dress for a beautiful person. Katie gasps that she'll never look that good again. Nick tells her that she looks great right now. Katie starts to feel a chill. Nick kids that her fever is causing that, because she's so hot. Katie tries to trade some barbs with him, but Nick wants to get her medicine for her. Katie asks him not to, as that will knock her out, and she doesn't want to close her eyes. She asks Nick to sit here and talk about all the time they've spent together over the last few days. Nick wants to call someone, but Katie says she has everything she needs right here. Her breathing starts to become more labored and she passes out. Nick calls out her name, but she doesn't answer.

Nick reflects on the time he spent with Katie.
Nick goes downstairs and looks around at all the prom decorations in his living room. He sees a nerf basketball sitting in the room and picks it up, and he starts to cry as he sits down with the ball and recalls the last few days with Katie. Brooke and Bridget rush in, telling him that they've found a way to save Katie. They ask him to help them bring in the stuff they brought from the hospital, but Nick tells them that it's too late. Bridget anxiously rushes upstairs and, after checking Katie, reports that they didn't lose her yet. Her pulse is weak, but she's not gone yet. She asks Brooke to help her set up the IV bag, since they're running out of time. Nick tells them to stop, reminding them that Katie made it clear that she didn't want any wires or test tubes hooked up to her. Bridget points out that this can save Katie's life, but Nick still refuses to see Katie die looking like some science experiment. But that's not what they're doing, Bridget points out; they're trying to save Katie! Nick asks if she can guarantee that this will work. Bridget says she can't, but they owe it to Katie to try. Brooke agrees and urges Nick to let them try this while there's still time. As Bridget asks Brooke for the IV bag, Brooke looks at Nick, pleading with her eyes for him to let them do this. Nick takes the IV bag from Brooke's hand and gives it to Bridget, who sets it up. Nick asks what happens now. "We just wait and pray," Bridget informs him.
