Ridge and Taylor are glad to have Steffy home.
Taylor arrives at Ridge's office and is surprised to see her daughter Steffy sitting there. After exchanging hugs, Steffy explains that her dad asked her to come home, but he wouldn't say why over the phone. Taylor reveals that she's also in the dark, since Ridge just asked her to come over and didn't say why. As they wonder what's going on, Ridge comes in and greets his errant daughter with a warm embrace. Taylor and Steffy sit down on the couch so Ridge can explain why he asked them here. He starts off by telling them about Katie's rejecting Storm's heart. Both Taylor and Steffy are sorry to hear that, since the Logans have been through so much lately. Steffy offers to extend her stay so she can see Katie, but Ridge tells her that he was actually hoping she'd stay permanently. Steffy asks what's going on. Ridge tells her that there are going to be lots of changes at Forrester now that her granddad married Donna, and he wants her to be there, front and center, when those changes happen. Steffy frets that she doesn't know what she'll do "front and center," since she's not a model. Ridge says he was thinking more along the lines of management, assuming she's interested. Steffy still isn't sure about taking on a long term commitment, so Taylor jumps in and suggests that Steffy try it out for a few months. If she doesn't like it, she can always just go to school here in L.A., but the important thing is to have her back home with her family. Hearing her mom put it that way, Steffy agrees to give it a try. Ridge thanks her with a big hug.

Steffy weighs in on her mom's relationship with Rick.
After Ridge leaves, Taylor stays behind to chat with Steffy. She's thrilled that Steffy has agreed to stay in L.A. Steffy admits that she was a bit blown away when she heard that her grandfather might step down and turn the company over to her dad. It sounds like war, she remarks. Taylor says that she hopes it's not war, although she admits that Eric's marriage to Donna has made some waves. Steffy says that she heard about that from Phoebe, who also filled her on everything else that's been going on - like what happened with baby Jack and with Rick. Taylor assumes that Phoebe had quite a bit to say about Rick. Steffy tells her mom not to fret about how Phoebe feels about that relationship, since Phoebe broke up with Rick. "If you made a connection with him," Steffy advises, "then go for it." She's not about to lecture her mom, especially when she has so much going on in her own life. "If Rick makes you happy," Steffy says, "then more power to you. Go ahead and take a walk on the wild side." Pleased to see that her daughter's OK with her relationship, Taylor gives Steffy a high five and a hug.

On the Shady Marlin, Nick and Bridget plan a special voyage for Katie. Bridget thanks Nick for doing this with a kiss and asks him to show Katie some of that famous Marone charm, but she also warns him not to create too much excitement, since it might be too much for Katie. Nick tells Bridget that the important thing is that Katie not see them feeling sorry for her. Bridget laments that the transplant didn't take, so Nick tells her that she did what she could. It wasn't enough, Bridget states, so they have to make every moment count for Katie now. Nick says he'll do his best and gives her a hug and a kiss.

Brooke tells Donna about Katie's condition.
Donna drops by the Marone mansion to fill Katie in on what's happening with Marcus. Donna explains how she tried to tell Eric about Marcus, but she couldn't. That's when she got the idea to get Marcus a job at Forrester, so he can get to know Eric better. Katie thinks the plan sounds risky and suggests that Donna just tell Eric the truth now, but Donna thinks she needs a little time first. Katie is glad Donna is getting to know her son. Donna says that she wants Katie to get to know him, too. Katie says she'd like that and starts to tell Donna about her rejecting the new heart, but Brooke comes in and asks Katie if she told Donna yet. "Told me what?" Donna asks, so Brooke tells her that Katie is rejecting Storm's heart. Donna is heartbroken by the tragic news. Brooke tells Donna that they intend to fill all of Katie's remaining days with happiness. Katie tells her sisters that she doesn't want anyone to feel sorry for her, but Donna sobs that she's feeling sorry for herself, since she's losing her beloved sister. Brooke hates to break up the moment, but there's a surprise waiting for Katie. Katie asks where she's going, but Brooke tells her that it doesn't matter, since the only surprises Katie will have now will be good ones.

Nick and Katie set sail.
Brooke brings Katie to the marina where they board the Marlin and find Nick and Bridget waiting. Bridget tells Katie that she'll be going on her own private cruise. Once Bridget confirms that Dr. Patrick said it wouldn't be a problem, Katie wants to get going and looks to Brooke, who says that she and Bridget will be staying behind. Katie seems a bit put off, but Brooke tells her that there will be plenty of time to spend with her and Bridget later, so she wants Katie to go off and have fun. Katie thanks Brooke and Bridget, who bid her bon voyage and send her on her way. Alone with Nick, Katie asks what she should do first. Nick has her put on a life jacket and hold a couple of life preservers. When Katie asks what all this is for, Nick quips that he likes to have a few laughs when he sails, and right now, she looks pretty stupid. They then set sail, and Nick shows Katie how to steer the boat. As she sits at the helm, Katie asks Nick if he ever thought about what's out there during all his time sailing toward the horizon. Nick says he tries not to get too philosophical about it. Katie then spots Catalina Island in the distance and tells Nick that she's never been there, even though she was born and raised in L.A. Then it's about time she went there on a field trip, Nick says, helping her set a course for Catalina.

Bridget talks about Katie with her mom.
Brooke and Bridget return to the Marone mansion, where they wonder if they did the right thing by sending Katie off to sea. Bridget is sure Nick can handle anything that might happen. Brooke says she can't help but worry under the circumstances. She reveals that she told Ridge about Katie's heart last night, and he's worried, too. Bridget hopes Ridge hasn't told anyone else, since she doesn't know if Katie wants everyone to know how sick she is. Brooke thinks it will be obvious soon. Brooke then tells Bridget how excited Katie got once she saw they were going to the marina. Bridget thinks that's because Nick has a positive affect on Katie. Brooke sees the look on Bridget's face when she says that and thanks Bridget for putting her own relationship with Nick aside for the moment for Katie's sake. "I'm proud of you," Brooke praises, giving Bridget a hug. Soon after, Bridget gets a call from Nick, who tells her that he and Katie are stopping at Catalina Island. Brooke worries that something might happen on the island, but Bridget assures her that Nick will look after Katie. Brooke again tells Bridget how sweet what she's doing is. Bridget notes that Katie and Nick are best buddies, and Nick will keep things from getting too depressing for Katie. "I just want her to be as happy as she can," Bridget reflects, "and I don't think anyone makes her happier than Nick."

Nick tells Katie about the island.
Nick and Katie arrive on the island and set up a picnic lunch on the beach. When Nick offers to give her a tour of the island, Katie laughs that she expected more from the great sea-faring Nick Marone. Nick asks how she feels about wild buffalo, since they are all over the island. Katie doesn't seem keen on that idea, so Nick offers to fish or to dive to find some food, since he has a secret fishing hole on the island. Katie suggests that maybe she should do the diving, since she can take care of herself. "What's the worst that can happen? I catch a cold and die?" she asks. Suddenly, tears fill her eyes as she thinks about her situation. Nick moves over closer to her and puts his arms around her to comfort her as she cries.
