Steffy wants to work her way up at Forrester.
Ridge brings Steffy into his office to talk about her starting to work on the management side of the business, but Steffy tells him that she wants to earn her place there by starting from the ground up. In that case, Ridge says, she can work in shipping and receiving. Steffy's glad, since that will let her learn the business the way he did. Ridge jokes that luckily for her dear old dad, doing it that way can take a while, and he takes her downstairs.

Pam eavesdrops on Donna and Eric.
Meanwhile, Pam eavesdrops as Donna tells Eric about an impressive young man who's coming in for a job interview. He's a bit surprised when she tells him that it's Marcus, the young man who worked for the caterers. Steffy comes in, and Eric is thrilled to see his granddaughter is home. As Eric hugs her, Steffy sees Donna over his shoulder and tries to look away. Donna welcomes Steffy home as Eric asks when she got there. Steffy tells him how her dad asked her to come home and how she's going to be working in the shipping department. Donna is surprised Steffy wants to work in shipping, since Steffy's sister was their spokesperson. Steffy explains that she wants to learn the business from the ground up. Eric is pleased and invites Steffy to stay for a job interview he's about to do. Outside, Marcus arrives and tells Pam that he's there to see Mr. and Mrs. Forrester. Pam gets a dig in that her sister, the REAL Mrs. Forrester, doesn't work there anymore before buzzing Eric to tell him that Marcus is there. Eric tells her to show him in, so she does. Donna reintroduces Eric to Marcus and introduces him to Steffy, who kiddingly advises him not to let the old man make him nervous.

Donna helps Eric interview Marcus.
Donna suggests they get started, so Eric asks Marcus why he wants to work at Forrester. Marcus admits that he doesn't have experience in the fashion business, but he's willing to learn. Eric asks if he considers himself a self-starter. Steffy chimes in that he must be since he got the interview with Eric. Donna tells Eric that it's not such a stretch for Marcus to be there, since Brooke was a caterer once, too. (Actually, it was their mom, but Brooke worked for her). Marcus admits he's not a caterer and tells Eric that he's interested in the business side of the company, but he's willing to get his hands dirty if necessary to learn all about the business. He just feels like this is the right place for him. Eric is impressed with his ambition and confidence and offers him a job in shipping, and he suggests that Steffy show him around down there since she just started in the shipping department as well. He notes that if Marcus is as smart as Donna thinks he is, it won't be long before Marcus is teaching them a thing or two.
Marcus is thrilled about his new job.
Donna gets a moment alone with Marcus and congratulates him on his new job. She thinks this will work, since he'll be bringing packages to the whole family and getting to know them. Marcus wonders if he should stay out of their way given the family's feelings about her, but Donna wants him to interact with them so they'll like him. Marcus promises Donna that he'll make her proud of him. Donna tells him that she already is and wishes him luck before rushing off to a meeting. When Steffy comes by to show him around, Marcus guesses that they'll both be learning the ropes here together, but Steffy admits that she's been around the fashion business all her life. Marcus thanks Steffy for helping him be at ease during his interview. He admits he's going to need someone to help him, since he really wants to impress Eric. Steffy thinks she can help him with that.

Ridge has concerns about Katie leaning on Nick.
Ridge arrives late for a lunch date with Brooke, who teases him about being tardy. Ridge tells her that he took her advice and brought Steffy home, and he informs her that his daughter's going to be working at Forrester. Brooke's pleased, since that will give them time to spend together. Ridge asks how Katie is doing. When Brooke tells him that Katie is on the boat with Nick, Ridge gets concerned. Brooke admits she was worried, too, but she sees how Nick has a calming effect on Katie that will help her. Ridge frets that Nick's "Captain Hero" act might not be such a good thing given that Katie has a crush on the sailor. He thinks Katie needs someone she can depend on.

Brooke tells Ridge that she needs to know he's there for her.
Brooke assures him that Nick cares about Katie. Ridge asks how Bridget feels about it. Brooke tells him that they're all just trying to make Katie comfortable and happy while they can. Ridge says he wants that, too, and apologizes. Katie may have lousy taste in friends, he notes, but she's family, so he'll help in any way he can. Brooke tells him that she can't do this without him. Ridge says he's there, but she reminds him that he's had issues with her family. Ridge says what happened with Katie is beyond that. Brooke agrees that Katie comes first, but this is her life, too, and she needs to know he'll be there for her through whatever problems she faces. Ridge tells her that he's there for her always.

Katie thinks about all the things she'll never get to do.
On the island, Katie sobs that she's sorry. Nick tells her not to cry. She tells him that she doesn't want to, and she wants to enjoy this, but... Her charming tour guide Nick digs a hole for when he brings back firewood. After he gets the wood, Katie tells him that she keeps thinking of things she should have done, like getting married or having a baby, but instead she only has memories of high school and a disastrous prom. Katie gets hungry, so Nick opens up the cooler. As they eat, Nick tells Katie that he was remembering how in his face she got when she came to L.A., but then she kept him at arm's length like she does everyone else. Katie thinks he was the same way. Nick agrees that he was like that, but Katie points out that he changed when he met Brooke and Bridget, and now he has his son Jack. Nick tells her that she'd make a great mom, since Jack tells him that all the time. Katie argues that Jack doesn't talk, but Nick disagrees and says he understands his son just fine. Katie muses that she'll never be a mom now.

Nick urges Katie to take her pills.
Later, Katie finds a piece of sea glass and tells Nick that she collected that stuff since she was a kid. She explains that she used to go beach combing when she was younger while Brooke and Donna would surf, and she'd pick up the little pieces of sea glass and put them in a jar. It still amazes her how the ocean could turn a piece of glass into that beautiful smooth stone. Nick says he understands. He then pulls out a bottle of pills that Katie left on the Marlin and tells her that she has to take them. Katie says she's not going back to the hospital, where they'll hook her up to machines and leave her helpless in bed. In fact, she likes it here, where it's peaceful. Nick says she doesn't have to leave yet, but she has to take her medicine. Katie responds by burying the pill bottle in the sand and tells Nick that she doesn't think they should leave at all. She likes it there because she's at peace, with the sun on her face and the wind in her hair, so she could stay as long as it takes. Nick digs up the bottle and urges Katie to take her pills.
