Brooke worries about showing Storm's letter to Katie.
Brooke, Donna and Bridget discuss whether to give Katie the note Storm left for her. Donna suggests opening it first, since Storm wasn't himself when he wrote it, but Brooke feels funny opening it. Bridget wonders how they can tell Katie that she has her brother's heart. The ladies anxiously wait for Dr. Patrick, the heart surgeon, to let them see Katie. When Dr. Patrick arrives, he tells them that they weaned Katie off sedatives and are trying to remove her breathing tube. He then gives Brooke and Donna strict instructions on sanitizing themselves before seeing Katie and suggests that they go shower first after being in the hospital so long. The doctor then leaves and Bridget leads her mom and aunt to the showers.

Ridge and Ashley discuss Storm's shooting.
Meanwhile, Ridge waits with his parents outside, explaining how Storm killed himself to give his heart to Katie. Stephanie says that she heard that Storm threatened Ashley. Right on cue, Ashley arrives and reveals that Storm's shooting Katie was a big misunderstanding. She asks how Katie is. Ridge tells her that no one has seen Katie yet. Stephanie wonders if she could have avoided this by turning Storm into the police. Ridge tells his mother that he's the one who told Lt. Baker that Storm shot her and just hopes Brooke will understand why he was so harsh toward her brother.

Donna can't find the words to use to call her parents.
Once Donna finishes showering, she lets Brooke go in. Before going to shower, Brooke tells Donna to contact their parents. Donna tells Brooke that she tried their mom but had no luck leaving a message about Storm, and she isn't sure where their dad is. She tells Brooke she'll try reaching Stephen while Brooke is in the shower. Ridge arrives and asks Brooke if he can join her, but Brooke just wants to see Katie first. Ridge asks Brooke if she is angry with him. She says it's hard to think of how hard he was on Storm, even though she knows he was just being protective. What bothers her the most is that he wanted to make decisions about Storm without her to get Storm out of their lives - and now, he IS out of their lives. Ridge sighs. Brooke tells him she's sorry for how that sounded and assures him that she loves him. She stresses that she doesn't want to blame anyone for this.

Stephanie has some kind words for Donna.
While Nick brings food for everyone, Donna tries to call her father. She gets his voice mail and leaves a message about Katie's surgery without telling him about Storm. As she hangs up, Eric comes over and asks if she's OK. Donna says she is now that he's there. She knows she seems like she is ignoring him, but-- Eric tells her not to say that, since she needs to see Katie. Stephanie comes over and tells Donna that she's sorry for her loss. She also tells Donna that Felicia went over to the house, so Brooke shouldn't worry about the kids, and she says she's praying for Katie. Donna is moved.

Donna then meets up with Brooke and Bridget to go into Katie's room. Donna notes that Katie doesn't look as pale as she did before. Brooke and Donna tell Katie that they're there and try to explain to her that she had surgery. Bridget tells Katie not to talk, since the tube they gave her to help her breathing might make her throat sore. Bridget senses that Katie is thirsty and goes to get her some ice chips. While Bridget is gone, Katie tries to say something. Brooke asks what she wants, and Katie moans, "Storm."

Eric thinks Stephanie had a lot in common with Storm.
Nick sees Bridget coming out of the room and goes over to her as Eric approaches to find out how Katie is doing. Bridget says that Katie is naturally feeling some pain after what she went through, but that's normal. Stephanie asks if they told Katie about Storm yet. Bridget thinks they should wait a few days, but Stephanie wonders if that's wise. Bridget thinks Brooke and Donna will know when the right time to tell Katie is. Nick tells Bridget that she's the unsung hero of all this. Meanwhile, Eric tells Stephanie how touched he is about her show of compassion toward the Logan family. He admits he often forgets she has a sensitive side. Stephanie agrees that he does that. They both wonder if Brooke and Donna are telling Katie the truth about their brother. Stephanie bets that Katie will be furious to learn that her brother gave his life for hers and wonders how to get over something like this. Eric disagrees; he thinks Katie will feel some guilt at first but fill come to peace with what Storm did in time. What he can't see is why Stephanie can't understand that, since he knows someone who acts out of love like Storm did; he thinks Stephanie and Storm probably had more in common than Stephanie thinks.

Bridget and Nick come in to see Bridget.
When Bridget returns with Katie's ice chips, Nick comes in with her, interrupting Brooke and Donna's kidding around with Katie about how good she looks after her transplant. Nick jokes about the gown he has to wear as he comes in. Bridget offers Katie an ice chip, so Katie just groans. Brooke tells Katie not to talk if it's too hard, but Katie manages to say that what happened wasn't Storm's fault. Brooke asks Katie if she's talking about what happened when the gun went off. Katie sobs for Brooke to find Storm and tell him, since Katie knows he'll be afraid. Brooke then tells Katie that Storm left a note for her. Brooke is willing to wait to read it, but Katie tells her to read it now. Bridget thinks it might be a good idea to read it while they're all here, so she reads:

Katie panics after hearing Storm's letter.
"My sweet, Katie. Do you remember when you were little, the way you and Donna played house? She'd make you dandelion meat loaf and say it was time you got married, and you'd come ask if you could marry me. And she'd make the dog sit up and marry us. And we'd promise to stay together forever. It makes me happy to keep that promise I'm sorry for the pain you're in in. Sorry for all the times I let you down. And Brooke and Donna, too. But that's not going to happen again. I'll be closer than your own skin. I'll be doing what my heart knows how to do. Without my head screwing it up. Don't be angry with me. Or not for too long. Your sisters aren't as tough as we are. They're going to need us. I think I have to finish now. There's more to say, but we'll be together soon. I'll be the whisper in your ear. Love, Storm."

As Brooke finishes, a panicked Katie frantically asks where Storm is. "He's with you now," Brooke says. They all start crying as the realization hits Katie of what her brother did.
