Mass tells Jackie that Ridge is upstairs with Brooke.

Downstairs, Massimo finds Jackie at the front door; they're each surprised to see the other there. Jackie explains that she wanted to check on Brooke after what happened at the wedding, but she guesses that there is no need, since she saw Nick's car in the driveway and didn't see Ridge. Mass informs her that he drove Ridge home. So Nick and Ridge are both there? Jackie asks. They're both up with Brooke, Mass says. Jackie is glad that Mass had the sense not to go up there himself. Too bad their son didn't, Mass comments. Jackie asks if Ridge was there first. Mass states that this is Ridge's home. It would have been had he and Brooke wed, Jackie retorts. Mass says that Ridge is in mourning over the loss of his sister and needs his wife. Jackie agrees that it's been a trying time for the family. And Nick hasn't helped by running up there and claiming that Brooke is in love with him, Mass states. Brooke IS in love with him, Jackie says. Just then, Nick rushes downstairs. Jackie asks what's wrong, but he just holds her by the shoulders, looks at her and then bolts out.

Brooke hesitates when Ridge wants to make love to her.

Upstairs, Brooke pulls her robe up, sits up and tells Ridge to wait. He says that he's been waiting all day to be with her this way. She says she knows that, since this was supposed to be their wedding night. He asks her to pretend that it is, but Brooke says she can't. She's never pretended with him, she reminds him, and they always promised to be honest with each other, so that's what they're going to do. Ridge agrees, but he's not sure what she means. She points out that he said he needed her. And he does, he states. He's in pain over his his sister dying, she says, and she wants to be there for him. And she is, he says: she's in his arms, which is what he needs most right now. Brooke just looks at him. He asks what's wrong. This is their wedding night, he says, and everything will be OK now that they're together. Half-smiling, Brooke says that she should check on the kids. Don't be too long, Ridge says as she leaves the room.

Jackie tells Brooke that Nick was there, but ran off.
|
Downstairs, Jackie asks Massimo why Nick rushed out like that. Mass thinks it's obvious that Brooke told Nick that she was choosing Ridge. Even so, Jackie asks, how could they let Nick go that way? She supposes that he's devastated, Mass sympathizes, but he still thinks that Nick had no business being there in the first place. Jackie asks if that's all he has to say, since Nick is his son. Mass offers to go find him, but Jackie thinks he has done enough. She says that she'll find Nick, but Mass ignores her and leaves in a huff. Brooke comes down and asks Jackie what she's doing here. Jackie says she came to check on her, but she was surprised to learn that Brooke was upstairs with Ridge. Brooke asks how she knew that. Massimo told her, Jackie says; he and Nick just left. Brooke is surprised to hear that Nick was there. Didn't she talk to him? Jackie asks. Brooke says she didn't. Jackie guesses that Nick must have seen something to upset him with the way he bolted out. A horrified Brooke realizes that Nick must have seen her with Ridge. So Massimo was right that she recommitted to Ridge? Jackie asks. No, Brooke replies, explaining that she was just comforting Ridge over the loss of Felicia. But if Nick thinks she had chosen Ridge... She rushes to the door and says that she has to find Nick and explain. Jackie tells her to try the Marlin. Brooke suddenly realizes that she's not dressed, so Jackie offers her fur coat and tells Brooke to go.

Ridge thinks Jackie is deluding herself.
|
Soon after, Ridge comes down and sees Jackie. He asks why she's there. She says that she heard about Felicia's death and didn't think Brooke should be alone. Ridge doesn't buy that and bets that she was hoping Brooke WAS alone, so Jackie could sing her son's praises to Brooke. Not that Nick needs that, Jackie replies. Ridge thinks Jackie is as bad as his mother, meddling to get her way for her son, but it won't do Jackie any good this time. Jackie knows he's upset about his sister, but that's no reason to... Ridge cuts her off and says that she and Nick are wasting their breath, because Brooke isn't interested in anything they have to say. She's more than interested, Jackie says. Ridge says she's delusional if she thinks that, since he and Brooke are going to have a life together, no matter what Jackie or anyone else wants. So where is Brooke? he asks. Jackie asks how she should know if he doesn't. He tells her that Brooke went to check on the kids, but she wasn't in their rooms, so he assumed she was down here. Jackie thinks he's been assuming a lot about what Brooke wants lately. Ridge responds that his relationship with Brooke is a fact that Jackie and Nick will have to accept, since Brooke has made her decision. Yes, she certainly has, Jackie agrees.
At Chuck's, Hector asks Taylor if she's had enough. She says she knows. She knows it hurts him that she wants Ridge back. Because Ridge is the wrong man for her, Hector replies. He's the ONLY man, Taylor retorts. Hector disagrees. Taylor points out how miserable she is without Ridge. That's because she's been drinking since Ridge left, Hector suggests. Taylor says he has no idea what she's going through. What he knows, he responds, is that chasing Ridge won't make things better for her. Taylor says that she knows that Ridge and Brooke didn't get married because Nick stopped the ceremony, so maybe that leaves a chance for her and Ridge. Just then, Hector gets paged back to the station and says he has to go. So go, she tells him. Before he goes, he grabs Taylor's car keys. She protests, but he says he's giving the keys and money for a cab to the bartender so she can get home. After giving those to the bartender, he tells Taylor that he'll call her later, and he doesn't want her doing anything tonight until they have a chance to talk.

Taylor is shocked by what Nick tells her.
|
Nick comes in and takes a stool at the bar, ordering Chuck to line 'em up. When Chuck hesitates, Nick grabs the bottle and pours himself. Taylor spots him and comes over, offering her condolences for Felicia. Nick gruffly tells her that he's not in the mood for company. Taylor says she understands how he feels. If she did, he snaps, she wouldn't be here! Taylor guesses that he doesn't like her and admits she's not the person he should be expressing his grief to and wonders why he's not with Brooke. What is she talking about? Nick asks. Taylor says that she knows how he stopped the wedding, so why isn't Brooke here with him? Nick has a news flash for her: Brooke made her choice, and he found out about it when he saw her in bed with Ridge! He takes another shot of tequila to drive that image from his mind. Taylor can't believe it, since Stephanie said... Nick tells her to forget about Stephanie, since he saw Brooke with Ridge, in her bed, with his own eyes. Stunned, Taylor downs a shot of tequila herself. Nick pours himself another shot and calls out for Chuck to bring some more. When he doesn't get an answer, he asks Taylor is she likes the ocean. She says yeah. Even if it's dangerous at sea, Nick confides, at least he's free. It's not like being on land, when there's always a woman and kids are families, but none of them are his. It's like a bad dream, but it's not a dream. Taylor says she understands. Nick agrees that they're in the same boat, but he thinks it's time to go. He stumbles out, leaving Taylor sitting at the bar.
Meanwhile, Brooke races to the boat, fretting about what Nick must have seen. She tries to call him but gets his machine, so she leaves him a message that she knows what he saw, but there is an explanation. She asks him to meet her at the Marlin if he's not there already.

Nick's surprised when Taylor comes to his boat.
|
Nick boards the Shady Marlin with a six pack of beer in one hand and a can in the other. Clearly drunk, he takes a swig, slams the six-pack down, looks up and says, "You suck, Nick!" He takes off his shirt and tosses the beer can away, talking to himself about finding the old Nick; all he'll need is some gas, sunscreen, fishing tackle and more beer. Just then, a drunk Taylor appears and asks if she can have a beer. If he gives her one, Nick says, that leaves less for him. Taylor tells him that she doesn't have her car keys, nor does she have money for a cab. Nick says he certainly can't get her home. She starts crying, lamenting that she didn't know where else to go. No matter what he thinks of her, she's hoping he will help her. Standing at the foot of his bed and puts her arms around his neck. She says that she's been in so much pain, but being with him takes the pain away. She leans close to him, but she then says she can't and pulls away. She stumbles and Nick tries to catch her and they fall on to the bed...
...just as Brooke arrives! She opens the door and calls out to Nick, and she's stunned when she sees him on the bed with Taylor! "My God, what are you doing?" a shocked Brooke asks.
