Stephanie has a suggestion.
|
Brooke arrives home and is stunned to find Stephanie sitting on her sofa! Stephanie comments that the service tonight was lovely. Brooke agrees. Stephanie admits she didn't know how Bridge would cope. Bridget suffered a great loss, Brooke states, but she fears there's more to come. Stephanie says that she knows. Brooke asks what she knows; Stephanie reveals that she knows that Dante is Dominick's father and asks how Brooke knows. Brooke says that Nick told her at the beach house. He told her before his own wife? Stephanie asks. Brooke tells Stephanie to get to the point of her visit, so Stephanie says that this could be the answer to everyone's prayers. Brooke asks how there could be a silver lining to Bridget finding out that the little boy she's bonded with isn't Nick's son, especially after Bridget just lost her own daughter. Stephanie explains that she spoke to Dante, who put things in perspective for her. She now sees that Dante wants what's best for his child, which is for the boy to be raised by two loving parents. So he's willing to let Nick and Bridget raise the boy? Brooke asks. Actually, Stephanie says, Dante suggested that he and Bridget raise the baby together. After all, they're not exactly strangers, and Dante is madly in love with Bridget. But what about Nick? Brooke asks. Stephanie tells Brooke that she can have Nick.

Brooke is stunned by Stephanie's suggestion.
|
Gasping in disbelief, Brooke cannot believe that Stephanie wants her to come between Bridget and her husband. She refuses to hurt her daughter that way. She can't believe that Stephanie can't see how devoted Nick is to Bridget. Stephanie says that she DOES see that. She even saw it today at the memorial, even though she didn't expect it. Still, she knows that few marriages survive the loss of a child, and now Nick and Bridget are about to lose another child, one that held their marriage together. Brooke says that Nick and Bridget can still have other children, but Stephanie tells Brooke that her and Nick's sacrifice for Bridget is only delaying the inevitable. She thinks that marriage will inevitably fail, while Brooke will never find happiness with a man other than Nick, so why not take advantage of a situation where everyone can win. Brooke sees the real winner in this plan: Stephanie herself, who wins by Brooke being with Nick, since it means she won't be with Ridge! Stephanie denies the accusation, but she asks Brooke to consider why, with all Ridge's efforts, he hasn't won Brooke back yet. She thinks it's because Brooke is in love with Nick, and this is unable to commit to Ridge. If Brooke loves Nick, Stephanie asks, then why would she deny herself the chance to be with the man she truly loves? And Bridget will be fine, since she'll be with a man of her own. Stephanie tells Brooke that this is her chance: it's now or never, so Brooke has to make a decision. Brooke considers Stephanie's words, as Stephanie asks her what it's going to be.

Nick tells Bridget that he is not Dominick's father.
|
At the beach house, a scared Bridget tells Nick to just tell her what's wrong with Dominick. He pauses, unable to find the words to tell her. After thinking about it a bit, he says, "Dominick's dad." Bridget asks why he's saying it that way, since he's Dominick's father. Nick looks away. Bridget tells him to look at her. Finally, he comes out and says that Felicia had a test last night. What kind of test? Bridget asks. Nick pauses again, so Bridget tells him to just come clean with her. Nick tells her that it was a paternity test. Taylor was with Felicia, since they wanted to make sure before saying anything. And the tests were conclusive, showing that Dominick is NOT his son. Bridget asks how this could be; Nick tells her that Felicia was with another man. She never even suspected that this man would be the father, since she was only with this man for one night. One night? Bridget asks, wondering if this is some sort of joke. It isn't, Nick assures her. Bridget recalls how Felicia begged her to accept Felicia's son as her own, something she was able to do because the boy is Nick's son - THEIR son. She asks Nick if he's saying that Felicia is going to take Dominick away from them. Felicia still wants them to raise the baby, he says, but the father has some say - and the father is Dante!

Bridget thinks that Dante will let her and Nick raise the baby.
|
Bridget can't believe this! Nick explains how Felicia and Dante met in France and were together for just one night. Suddenly Bridget puts the pieces together. She sees why Nick was so distracted at the service, because he had just found this news out. He had not only lost a daughter, but also a son. And now she gets what Dante tried to tell her earlier when he said that something bad would happen, but it wouldn't be as bad as it seemed. She thinks about Dante saying that he would always care about her, and that he would never hurt her. Now she knows what he meant: she thinks Dante was saying that he may be Dominick's father, but he didn't intend to take Dominick away from her and Nick. Nick tells her to hold on: he asks if she really thinks that Dante will let him raise his son, especially since he wouldn't let Dante raise his child if the situation were reversed. Dominick starts to cry; while Nick goes to get him, Bridget goes for her purse. She tells Nick that she's going to talk to Dante; once they get this straightened out, she's sure that Dante will not take their son from them. They'll raise the boy, just like Felicia wanted, with two loving parents. She kisses the baby and tells him that she and Nick love him, and she then leaves, leaving Nick worried. Nick starts to play with the baby, telling Dominick how excited he was the first time he saw him. Now he has to wonder where they go from here.
Meanwhile, Dante has moved into Deacon's old place on the beach, where he is having a crib and other things for the baby delivered. He thanks the delivery guy for helping to bring the stuff in. The delivery man says it's no problem. He knows what it's like for a baby to be born early, since his wife delivered more than a month before her due date. Dante congratulates him and says that he just found out that his son was born last year, when he... He guesses the delivery guy isn't interested, so he simply says that he's excited about having his son being there with him now.

Dante asks Bridget to be there for Dominick - and for him.
|
Soon after, Bridget drops by. She says that Nick told her about Dominick, so she now understands what Dante was trying to say earlier. Smiling, Dante says that he didn't expect to be a father, but he welcomes it now. Bridget tells him that Dominick means the world to her, so she was scared when she found out that Nick wasn't the baby's father. Dante says he didn't want to cause her any more pain after she lost Nicole. Bridget says she knows that; she even told Nick that he [Dante] would never hurt her, since he's always been looking after her. Dante doesn't think that Nick would agree, but Bridget says that her husband just doesn't know Dante like she does. She knows that Dante, like her and Nick, wants what is best for the baby. Dante says that she made a promise to Felicia. And she's going to keep that promise, Bridget affirms: that's why she's so grateful to Dante for letting her and Nick adopt Dominick! Dante tells her to hold on a minute; he shows her all the baby stuff he bought and says that he wants his son to live with him. Bridget is stunned, because he he said that he wanted her to be Dominick's mother. And he meant it, he says. He points out that he's going to need help raising his son, and who would be better to help him than someone who will love his son like he was her own? Bridget asks what he's saying. He reminds her that he always thought that Nick only stayed with her because of the baby. But now, Nicole is gone, and Dominick is his son. He suggests that things happen for a reason. And just like he was ready to raise Bridget's child as his own, he needs her to do the same. He needs her to be there for Dominick.
Bridget says that she and Nick will both be there for the boy, but Dante says that he's not talking about Nick. He's talking about her and him being the best possible parents to his son, which is why he hopes she'll agree to raise THEIR son with him. Bridget is stunned.
