Meet Dr. Higgins, Ridge and Taylor's counselor.
|
Ridge and Taylor wait in Dr. May Ann Higgins's office. Ridge looks at all the doctor's diplomas and awards. Those show why Dr. Higgins is tops in her field, Taylor says. As Taylor is in hers, Dr. Higgins states, saying she's an admirer. As they get started, Taylor thanks the doctor for the night sessions. Although they should only need one session, Ridge confidently boasts; he tells Dr. Higgins that Taylor is bothered that his heart is divided between her and his ex-wife Brooke, who he has a child with. Dr. Higgins asks if he loves Brooke. He admits he does, but he claims that we all love more than one person. He loves his families with both Taylor and Brooke, he says, and he's hoping that Dr. Higgins can get Taylor accept that. The doctor tells Taylor that Ridge freely admitted loving another woman. And he doesn't see anything wrong with that, Taylor says. But obviously, the doctor deduces, Taylor does. Taylor thinks the problem is that there are different types of love, and the love Ridge feels for Brooke is desire. She hopes the doctor can help Ridge come to terms with that.

Ridge and Taylor aren't on the same page in counseling.
|
If that's what bothers her, Ridge tells Taylor, then he'll readily admit that he desires Brooke, just like half the men in the world do! Now that he's admitted that, he thinks they've achieved their breakthrough and can leave. As Ridge opens the door, Dr. Higgins tells him to wait. Even though he's admitted his desire for his ex-wife, she says, he still doesn't understand why Taylor finds it problematic. By problematic, he asks, does she mean that Brooke is blond and beautiful, and knows how to dress it up and take it out? He doesn't even think shock therapy could stop him from desiring Brooke, but he doesn't think that's important, since he has no intention of cheating on his wife with Brooke. He loves his wife, he says. But his love for his wife isn't the issue, Dr. Higgins says. Ridge is confused; he thought he was supposed to be honest here, and he was. If this petty jealousy bothers Taylor, he says, then she'll just have to get over it, like he would in here shoes. Taylor just looks at him in disbelief.

Brooke is forced to admit her feelings to Bridget.
|
At the Forrester mansion, Brooke promises to tell Bridget the truth, but not with Stephanie here. Bridget says this about the two of them, not Stephanie. It's about what Stephanie says she did, Brooke argues. Stephanie tells Brooke not to lie. Bridget reminds Brooke that she already admitted being on the boat with Nick: she asks if that's when they admitted their love for each other. Brooke hesitates, but then says yes. Brooke tries to reach out to Bridget, but Bridget pulls away, wanting nothing to do someone as sick as her mother. Bridget recalls the hell she went through with Deacon; Brooke promised that it wouldn't happen again, she remembers, so she forgave her mother, but now Brooke has gone and done it again! She asks Brooke why she hates her enough to do that again. Brooke insists that she loves Bridget with all her heart. A tearful Bridget asks if this is how she shows that love. Stephanie chimes in that Brooke only loves herself; Brooke tells her to shut up, but Stephanie says that Brooke's behavior is inexcusable. She's just glad that Bridget knows now what her mother is like. The only things Bridget knows, Brooke says, are the lies Stephanie has told her. It didn't happen the way Stephanie claims, she explains. Bridget doesn't think how it happened matters; what matters, she says, is that it happened at all!
Bridget guesses that her mom ran to Nick to celebrate right after being told about the "abortion." Brooke says no; in fact, she and Nick were in pain after being told about the abortion. They blamed themselves, and Nick was totally destroyed. So she told Nick she loved him to save his life? Bridget asks. Brooke explains that Nick thought his love for Bridget died with their baby. "So it's my fault?" Bridget asks. Brooke says that she doesn't want to hurt Bridget any more, but she asks to explain. After Bridget tested them, she explains, she and Nick thought Bridget had pushed Nick out of her life for good. When they realized that, they realized they loved each other - and at least for her, she thinks she'll always love Nick. Bridget asks if they had sex. No, Brooke says. But they kissed? Bridget asks. Brooke reluctantly admits that they did. Bridget pauses and then holds her stomach. Brooke asks what's wrong. So now she's playing the loving parent, Stephanie quips to Brooke. Brooke tries to explain to Bridget, but Stephanie thinks it would be better if Brooke left. Brooke ignores her and tries to tell Bridget that she and Nick always tried to fight their attraction, for Bridget's sake, and that was even more true when they found out Bridget hadn't aborted the baby. Brooke swears on her life that she respects Bridget and Nick's marriage and would never do anything to interfere with it.

Stephanie tells Brooke that this is her own fault.
|
Stephanie tells Bridget not to believe Brooke's empty promise, but Brooke insists that she meant every word. She knows Nick wants a future with Bridget, and that will never change. Stephanie points out that Brooke is again in love with her daughter's husband, just like with Deacon. Brooke thinks that Nick and Bridget can get past this and begs Bridget to believe that she and Nick only care about Bridget's happiness. Bridget turns away and tells her mom to stop. She doesn't want to hear any more and storms out. Brooke follows her outside and calls for Bridget to wait, but she's not in time to stop Bridget from leaving. Standing outside with her, Stephanie tells Brooke that this is her own fault. They go back inside, and Brooke says that she's not the one who manipulated her own children. She thinks Stephanie is now trying to manipulate hers, too, to get back at her. Stephanie says she just wanted to protect Bridget; Brooke says that's the ugliest lie of all, since all Stephanie did is hurt Bridget in the worst way. At least Bridget is through with her mother, Stephanie says. Brooke accuses Stephanie of costing Bridget her marriage and the man she loves, the father of her child. If that family falls apart, she fears... She then stops, praying that Stephanie hasn't done just that.

Nick and Jackie worry about what Stephanie might tell Bridget.
|
Nick returns to the Shady Marlin and finds Jackie looking at the photos Stephanie tore from the wedding album. She asks where Bridget is. Holding one of the torn photos, Nick tells her that Bridget is with Stephanie and has probably heard everything by now. If only he was there, he laments. Jackie asks why he isn't. Because Brooke wanted to handle it, he says, hoping to undo the damage Stephanie did. Of course he's worried, Jackie says, as he and Brooke both insisted that Bridget never find out. And Brooke was right, he says, picking up a torn photo of her. He laments that Brooke made the ultimate sacrifice for her daughter. He and Brooke both made sacrifices, Jackie says, to commit to his child, and his future with Bridget. But she has to ask if he really thought he could forget Brooke. Looking at the photo, Nick says that he couldn't forget. But still, he and Brooke talked about their feelings, and he thinks Jackie saw what they did, that he fell in love with someone as smart, beautiful and selfless as Bridget. He doesn't have any regrets about marrying Bridget, and he plans to let her know that when he sees her.
After Jackie leaves, Nick unsuccessfully tries to call Bridget. He looks at the photo of Brooke and flashes back to that night on the boat. Just then, Bridget comes in. He asks how she is. She doesn't think he wants to know, she says - although maybe he does want to hear the excuses her mother made. She looks around the boat and frets about that fact that this was THEIR love nest, where THEIR child was conceived. But it's also where he and her mom had their meetings, she says, telling him not to deny it. He says that he wouldn't insult her that way. She tells him not to bother with any details, as she already heard everything from her mother. Nick tries to tell her that it was a reaction to hearing that she had "aborted" their child. So he's blaming her? she asks; her mother tried to do that, too, she says. She guesses that he and Brooke ran into each other's arms for comfort. That's not how it was, he says, and she knows it. What she knows, she says, picking up the torn photo of Brooke, is that he promised not to betray her for her mother. She recalls their kisses at Big Bear and his marriage proposal and guesses that it was all one big joke. It wasn't a joke, Nick says: he assures her that he really loved her. She wanted to believe that, she tells him. But now, she can only ask him for the truth. She needs to know, during all those times he said he loved her, was he really in love with her mother? Nick is silent, so she tells him to go ahead and tell the truth.
