Ridge is shocked by Taylor's revelation.
|
In Dr. Mary Ann Higgins's office, Ridge explains his attraction to Brooke. He points out that he and Brooke were married and share a child, so he still loves Brooke. But he doesn't intend to act on those feelings, he states, and he just wishes that Taylor could understand that. Dr. Higgins asks Taylor if she fears what might happen between Ridge and Brooke. Taylor tells Ridge that she's sorry, but she does. Brooke is attractive, Ridge agrees. And while he wishes he could deny the chemistry between them, he can't. Dr. Higgins asks Ridge how he would feel if Taylor had chemistry with another man. Ridge laughs at that thought, as he can't imagine his saintly wife even looking at another man. Actually, Taylor says, she HAS been with another man, and they even kissed. A stunned Ridge asks who the man is. Taylor tells him that it's Hector. She reminds Ridge of the night that Brooke answered his cell phone and said, "I love you, too, Ridge." Ridge reminds Taylor that he already explained that call, and that Brooke only said that in friendship. But she didn't know that, she says. So she kissed Hector? Ridge asks angrily.

Dr. Higgins tries to help Ridge.
|
Dr. Higgins asks Taylor if she's attracted to Hector. Taylor isn't sure. The doctor asks if there is chemistry there. Yes, Taylor says, looking at a shocked Ridge across the room. Ridge is even more shocked that she's saying she has chemistry with Hector. He'll just have to deal with it, Taylor tells him. Ridge thinks he knows what she's doing: she's turning the tables on him. But the story with Brooke is different, he claims. Dr. Higgins looks at her notes and asks Ridge if it would bother him if Hector knows how to "dress it up and take it out" (which is how he described Brooke). Ridge doesn't seem to like the question. Dr. Higgins tells him that she only wants to help him understand that jealousy within a marriage can't be taken lightly. Ridge tells Taylor that he doesn't want her near Hector, as she can't have feelings for another man. But he can? Taylor asks. Ridge finally gets it; he pulls Taylor to her feet, hugs her and tells her that he's so very sorry.

Stephanie tells Brooke that the family will turn on Brooke if she's with Nick.
|
At the Forrester mansion, Stephanie comes down on Brooke for being so trashy that she would steal another husband from her daughter. "If you'd only kept your mouth shut," Brooke replies. Stephanie retorts that if Brooke would have just taken the gun she gave her and killed herself, all this pain would have been avoided. Brooke blames Stephanie and wishes she had used the gun on Stephanie, instead. She laments that Bridget and Nick were happy. But for one dirty little lie, Stephanie points out. Brooke says that she and Nick were prepared to make that sacrifice. But by doing it for the baby, Stephanie says, they were doing it for the wrong reasons. Brooke tells Stephanie that the baby is none of her business, but Stephanie thinks she saved that child from a lifetime of watching its mother fall apart, just because grandma couldn't keep her hands off Daddy. Brooke says she wouldn't do that, but Stephanie thinks she would. She's known what Brooke is like from the day she first saw her. Brooke says she's wrong. Stephanie disagrees, claiming that exposing Brooke will finally free Bridget and the family of Brooke! She tells Brooke to go be with Nick, because that's all she has now. Brooke says she has her work with Eric, but Stephanie doesn't think Eric will have anything to do with her. "He hates you, not me," Brooke replies. But Eric loves his daughter, Stephanie says: she's sure she'll win Eric's and even Ridge's trust back once they see Brooke with Nick.
Brooke says they'll never believe Stephanie, but Stephanie thinks she will win them back, holding up a glass of champagne to Brooke. Brooke can't believe that Stephanie is celebrating while Bridget is devastated and a baby will be without its father. Stephanie says she'll help Bridget with the baby. The hell she will, Brooke responds. Brooke thinks Bridget needs her, but Stephanie doesn't think Bridget will want anything to do with Brooke now. She tells Brooke to take Nick and ride off into the sunset with him: after all, isn't he her "destiny"? Brooke says she doesn't want Nick. She's sure Nick and Bridget can work things out in time, because of the sacrifice she's making. That's so absurd, Stephanie says: in fact: she bets that if Bridget stays with Nick, on the night that baby is born, Brooke will be in bed with Nick! Never, Brooke says. Stephanie, however, doesn't believe her. Despite Brooke's claims that Bridget and Nick can still be together, Stephanie doesn't think Bridget can ever trust her mother or feel safe in her marriage. That's why she intends to help Bridget. Brooke says she'll help her child. Stephanie tells Brooke that she brought this on herself by hurting Bridget again. Once the family finds out, she predicts, they'll all turn on Brooke. Brooke will lose them all, especially her daughter, and she won't be able to do a damned thing about. A tearful Brooke turns and leaves.

Eric and Brooke try to focus on helping their daughter.
|
Brooke goes to Eric's beach house and tells him that Stephanie did it. His wife is pure evil, she says. Eric asks her what happened. She tells him that Stephanie told Bridget everything. They wanted to protect their daughter, but now Bridget is hurt, angry and confused. Eric asks her if Bridget confronted her. She did, Brooke says; she tried to convince Bridget that she and Nick could control their feelings and would never act on them, but Stephanie twisted the truth. Bridget ran out, she says; she hopes Bridget is with Nick, who might be able to get through to her. Eric isn't sure that's possible. Brooke asks Eric why Stephanie would do this to their daughter. Eric agrees that Stephanie has no right to be involved with their child. He tells Brooke that he's through with Stephanie; in fact, thanks to Jonathan having Stephanie's power of attorney, he's now divorced from her. Brooke doesn't know what to say. She should say "to hell with her," Eric replies. They agree that their focus should be on helping Bridget, who is now in turmoil. Brooke just wishes she could save Bridget's marriage, so her baby will have a stable home with two parents. She committed to Bridget that she wouldn't destroy that marriage. If she could just reassure Bridget somehow. She pauses; Eric asks what she's thinking. Maybe there is a way to save that marriage and help their grandchild. Brooke tells Eric. Eric tells her to tell him what it is, as he'd do anything.

Nick unsuccessfully tries to tell Bridget that he wants her.
|
On the Shady Marlin, Nick tries to convince Bridget that we wants her. She tells him that she doesn't want to be some consolation prize. He tells her not to say that, but she reminds him that he knew that her mother was an issue for her. But he kept denying it and told her that it was all in her imagination - but now she sees that she was right. He treated her like a child, she says, although maybe she deserved it, as she was so naive. She should have known better than to get an involved with a man who was involved with her mother. Nick says that he loves her; he never lied about that. Then when did she go from being the woman he tried to marry four times to an obligation? she asks. She's not an obligation, he says, and they can still have the life they dreamed about. She thinks about everything they went through and just wishes he had been honest with her. He says he was, as he told her he cared about her mother. But he never said how much, she replies, so he deceived her. And she lied about the abortion, he reminds her. If she hadn't, that night on the boat with her mother would never have happened. He had put his feelings for Brooke to rest, he says, just like he claimed. She asks if he was going to lie about those feelings forever. She wonders if she was wrong to test him, or if he was wrong to fail. She decides it doesn't matter. Nick says it matters to him.
Bridget wonders if they only thought they could be together when her mom was with Ridge, But then Taylor came back and changed that, she recalls. Nick says that he loved her then and he still loves her now, but Bridget feels like she was his second choice. Even his mother saw it and tried to warn them, she recalls. Nick says it's not true, but she tells him not to deny it. All the times he was there for her mother rekindled their feelings, until they ignited on that night on the boat. She can never compete with that, because he loves her mother more, so why doesn't he go to Brooke now? Bridget doesn't want to hear any more of his lies, or any of his talk about sacrifices. She doesn't want any more of his love songs or boat rides. She just wants to find a man who will love her more than anyone else, and that man isn't him. Nick insists that he and her mother can never have a life together, because Brooke will do anything for her. She's tired of everyone - him, her mom, her dad, Jackie - making decisions for her. Didn't any of them think she deserved the truth? She thinks of all the vows he made to her. Nick says he's not lying when he says he loves her. But he loves her mom more, she says. When they fell in love, she thought they had something magical, and she believed that they could be free of scandal. But now she's in love with a man who loves her mother, and she deserves better than that.
Bridget looks at her rings. Nick says her name, but she just takes off the rings, puts them on the table and says, "Goodbye, Nick. She then leaves, leaving Nick to stare at the rings she left behind.
