Massimo can't believe what Jackie asks him to do.
Jackie stops by the Marone mansion to see Massimo. Mass asks what's so important that she had to come over so late. Jackie tells him of her talk with Dr. Maclaine earlier, where Mark went on about his respect for the Marone name. Not only does the good doctor work at a hospital with a Marone wing and use Marone gas, but Marone Industries even owns his bank/ Beverly Hills Certified National, Mass says. Which brings Jackie to the reason for her visit: she wants Mass to check Mark's account for any unusual activity. A disbelieving Mass tells her that he can't just invade a customer's privacy just for her own personal vendetta. But he has to, Jackie pleads: Mark admitted to her that Stephanie has been deceptive, so she believes that Stephanie faked her heart attack - and that bank account can help her prove it! Mass wants nothing to do with this smear campaign, but Jackie says she just wants th truth. And why would that matter to her? Mass asks. Because Stephanie has been trying to drive them apart, Jackie replies, by putting her down to him every chance she gets. And she intends to prove Stephanie wrong with these accusations? Mass asks. Jackie tells him not to just take her word for it: she's sure Mark's account will prove her right.

Massimo can't believe that Jackie is this desperate. She is desperate, she pleads, to hold onto her life and family. She knows she's made mistakes, but Stephanie has made it her mission to remind him of every one, just to keep them apart. Mass says that Stephanie doesn't control him. She says that Stephanie controls everyone she claims to care for, like her tricking Ridge into renewing his vows with Taylor, destroying Brooke and her family in the process. She's terrified by how ruthless Stephanie is and doesn't know if her family can withstand that. Mass recognizes that she feels sorry for Brooke, because he does, too. That's because he knows how prejudiced Stephanie is against Brooke, she tells him - and now he has a chance to help her prove what Stephanie is like by peeking at Mark's bank account. Mass accuses her of being manipulative now; she has to be, she says, for the sake of their marriage and family. That's why she can't stop digging until she finds the truth. Mass tells her that she, not Stephanie, is ruining their relationship. She again asks Mass to just look at Mark's account, but he refuses. He tells her to show herself out and heads upstairs, leaving Jackie standing alone in the living room.

At Brooke's house, she and Nick still lie on the bed, with Hope between them. Nick sees that Hope is sleeping. Hope really loves him, Brooke says. Nick says that he loves her, too, which is why he hates to see her upset this way. That's why he and Bridget want to help. Brooke is grateful for that, but she fears the time he spends with her and Hope is getting in the way of his and Bridget's relationship. Nick says it isn't, but Brooke reminds him that he and Bridget have a wedding to plan. That's what she wants him to forget about her problems and focus on that. Nick thinks about her words and admits that she's right: there shouldn't be any confusion about his feelings, especially for Bridget. Does that mean Bridget has reason to be confused? Brooke asks. Nick says that she doesn't, and neither does Brooke. Brooke reminds him of the time he's spent with her. That's because she needs some friendly support, he says. She tells him that Bridget needs support, too, from her fiance. Nick says that nothing would make him happier than marrying Bridget. Brooke asks if Bridget knows that. Nick says they've talked about it, but the more he thinks about it, he has to wonder if Brooke's right. That's why he wants her to know that if he's pulling away from her, it's for Bridget. She looks at him and tells him that Bridget's lucky to have him.

Brooke tells Nick to focus on Bridget, not her.
Brooke recalls the hell she put Bridget through: she knows Bridget has forgiven her, but she doesn't expect Bridget to just forget. Nick thinks that's water under the bridge, but Brooke thinks that Bridget still thinks about it every time she gets close to a man or makes a commitment. She regrets that. Nick tells her not to blame herself, or even any of the other people she knows who question his commitment to Bridget. Brooke says she's not one of those people; in fact, she tells him that she will never interfere with him and Bridget, and he has her word on that, and her support. Nick says that she has his too. At the same time, however, Brooke wants him to focus on making Bridget happy. Nick says he will, but at the same time, he doesn't want to leave her or her kids in a lurch. He's not, she says. She looks over to Hope, and she thanks him for helping her find the strength to maintain her dignity and stand up to Ridge. Nick tells her that Ridge owes her and her family a lot more than just an apology. Brooke tells Nick that they owe him more than she can ever say. She knows he may not be around as much now, but he'll always have a special place in their hearts.

Bridget tells Dante what she saw.
Bridget arrives at the beach house and flashes back to seeing Nick and her mom, lying on the bed with Hope between them. She opens the door. Dante is surprised to see her, but he immediately senses something wrong and asks why she's so upset. She tells him what she saw: seeing her mom and Nick acting like a family with Hope, she cries, made her see that he was right about Nick still loving her mother. Everybody tried to warn her, so why didn't she see it - and why wouldn't she listen? Dante tells her that he's sorry. Bridget guesses that she had to see it for herself before she believed it. She wanted things to be different this time, so she wonders what she did wrong. She trusted Nick, Dante replies. She laments that Nick knew what it did to her with Ridge and Deacon, but he chose her anyway. She just can't do this again, she cries.

Dante tells Bridget that she's strong enough to get through this. She doesn't think he understands, but he reminds her that he knows what she's been through. She told him everything that happened, she says, but she didn't tell him how she lost the ability to trust. All she ever wanted was the kind of love her mom and Ridge shared. She wanted to believe that she found it with Deacon, but she got married so young. But then Deacon left her for her mother. That's why, after she and Nick first kissed, they tried to resist their feelings. She knew she had to be careful about another man who was involved with her mom, and she thought she was. When Nick proposed to her, she was so happy - or maybe she just deluded herself into thinking she was happy. She got to the point where she couldn't imagine life without Nick, and she still can't. She needs him so much, so she can only ask herself how Nick could do this to her. Dante holds her.

Bridget feels like a fool.
Bridget tells Dante that she feels so stupid, but he says that she's not. In fact, it was her intelligence, with her compassion and integrity, that drew him to her. There are many beautiful women around, he tells her, but her intellect sets her apart. He's never met anyone like her and has never wanted anyone as much as he wants her. He fell for her in Rome, but he thought she would go home and be OK. Instead, she's being disappointed again, by another man who is letting her down, another man who's in love with her mother. It kills him to see her hurt this way. He moves close to her and says that he would never treat her this way. He wants her to have a man who loves her for herself, a man who hasn't had any history with her mother, and who loves her. He kisses her and asks her to let him love her. They kiss again.
