Deacon's pinned to the floor when Massimo puts his foot down.
|
Deacon lies on the floor of the Cafe Russe, held down by Massimo's foot on his chest. Massimo thinks it's only fair that Deacon listens to him after he was forced to listen to Deacon's taunts while he was wheelchair bound. Deacon says he can't breathe. Mass says that Deacon now knows how he felt, unable to take a breath on his own while Deacon tormented him. He calls Deacon a germ and asks where that superiority is now!
Jackie asks Massimo to stop. As Mass steps away, Nick and Thorne help Deacon into a chair. Jackie comforts Deacon and tells him that he'll get through this. Will he?! Mass shouts, returning to the table. He wonders if Deacon is man enough to pull himself up again after hitting rock bottom, as he was after his stroke. When Deacon doesn't reply, Mass demands an answer, but Deacon says he doesn't have to answer to Mass. But he does have to answer to Jackie, Mass says, for taking her away from the family and life she loved - and this is how he repays her? Jackie says Deacon is trying. Mass laughs at that, wondering if Deacon could ever prove he's not the weakling Mass thinks he is. Jackie says Deacon doesn't need to prove anything. The hell he doesn't, Mass argues. He says that if Deacon wants Jackie, then he'll prove he deserves her.

Massimo explains himself to Nick.
|
Massimo gets in his limo and tells his driver Ted to leave, but he sees Nick approach and tells Ted to wait. As Nick gets in the car, Mass apologizes for cutting their time short. Nick says he didn't think Mass would want to stick around after what just happened, especially since he accomplished his objective. Objective? Mass asks. Nick recalls what his father said earlier, about this lunch date being some kind of experiment; he asks if Deacon was the lab rat and wonders if Massimo found some way to get Sharpe back on the booze. He bets this lunch date was set up just so he'd be here to see Deacon's downward spiral. Mass admits he had someone spike Deacon's protein shakes to ignite Sharpe's cravings and drag him through hell, which was a fitting payback for the way Deacon tormented him. He points out that he could have crushed Deacon directly, but instead, he put Deacon's fate in his own hands by giving him a chance to prove himself. If Deacon succeeds, then so be it. But if he fails, as Mass suspects he will, Jackie will be saved from a horrible fate. As for Deacon himself, Mass doesn't care if he rots in hell!

Thomas talks to Brooke about how things are with his dad.
|
At Ridge's house, Thomas tells Brooke that Hope went right to sleep. Brooke says that R.J. was also tired from the long drive back. Thomas thinks Brooke looks tired, too; she says she wants to wait for Ridge and Bridget to get home before getting some rest. That might be a while given Bridget's love of skiing, Thomas points out. Brooke hopes Bridget doesn't keep Ridge waiting. Thomas thinks it would serve his dad right if Bridget did after the way Ridge beat him at Battleship at the cabin. Brooke thinks it was nice to see them playing together. Thomas agrees; while things between him and Ridge aren't the way they were, they're getting there. Brooke hopes Thomas understands his dad's reasons for keeping him from Amber. He says he does, but that doesn't mean Amber's a bad person. But she makes bad choices because of her obsession with the Forrester family, Brooke explains. When someone's that desperate, trouble's bound to follow.

Brooke anxiously waits for her husband's return.
|
A lingerie clad Brooke steps out of the bathroom and sees that Ridge still isn't home. She picks up her cell phone to call him, but she gets a message that he's out of the service area. She leaves him a message that she's home and is going to take a quick nap, so he should wake her when he gets in.

Amber refuses to give up on her plans.
|
Up at Big Bear, Bridget remains trapped at the bottom of the mine shaft. She desperately calls out for help. Meanwhile, in her rental, Amber watches her surveillance monitor and sees that Bridget's moving about. Clarke notes that Bridget could have broken her neck; Amber tells him to quit it, as she feels bad enough already. If she feels bad now, Clarke says, wait until the Forresters find out about this stunt. She's not worried, since she's sure Ridge and Bridget will be snuggling by the time the night is over; that will give her the proof she needs. Even if Ridge falls into the mine and survives, Clarke asks, what makes her think he'll be in a romantic mood? She thinks that having two people who had feelings for each other in such close quarters is all she needs. Clarke reminds her that Ridge and Bridget will be too busy avoiding hypothermia to get romantic. He thinks this has gone far enough, so he suggests they place an anonymous call to mountain rescue about Bridget and leave before anyone catches on. Amber won't listen; she refuses to give Ridge a way out that will let him keep her and Thomas apart. And speaking of Ridge, she sees him nearing the shaft, so she tells Clarke to grab a bag and get moving. Clarke asks what's in the bag; she just tells him to go!

Ridge searches for his “princess.”
|
Bridget continues to call for help, and she holds herself close to keep warm. Meanwhile, Ridge follows her tracks down the trail. He keeps stopping to call out her name, but he gets no response. He then finds Bridget's skis near the bridge and wonders why she would leave them here. Seeing two sets of tracks, he's says, "Princess, I'm coming," takes off his own skis and follows.
Amber and Clarke arrive at the mine shaft. Amber tells Clarke to give her a rope from the bag. As he takes the rope out, he knocks some snow in the shaft. Bridget sees the falling snow and calls up for anyone who's up there to help her. Clarke and Amber get down in the snow so Bridget can't hear them. Amber leaves the rope by the mine shaft. When she hears Ridge coming, she and Clarke run off and hide among the trees. When Ridge gets there, he calls down into the shaft; Bridget answers and tells him she's down here. She pleads with him to get her out. Ridge asks if anything's broken. Just her ego, Bridget says. Ridge finds the rope and offers to throw it down to her, but she thinks her fingers are too frozen to climb. Ridge ties the rope to a tree and tells her that he's coming down. She guides him as he makes his way down the shaft. Meanwhile, by the shaft entrance, Amber and Clarke come out from their hiding place. Amber takes something else from the bag and carefully unwraps a hatchet, which she uses to cut Ridge's rope! With nothing to hold him above, Ridge slides down and hits his head on the wall of the shaft, causing him to fall to the bottom! At the top of the shaft, Amber smugly looks pleased with herself.

Trapped in the mine together, Ridge holds Bridget close.
|
Bridget rushes to Ridge's side and asks if he's OK. He's silent at first, but he then starts to stir. To make sure he's OK, Bridget asks if he knows who she is; he says she's his princess. She asks what happened with the rope, but he's not sure. Bridget fears he might have a concussion and tells him to lean against the wall, but he can't just sit here idly. He takes out his cell phone and tries to call for help, but he gets no signal - which doesn't really surprise him, since they're in the middle of nowhere. He asks Bridget how she got so far off the trail; she tells him how she followed a woman who cried for help and then disappeared, and the next thing she knew, she was falling. Ridge is sure a rescue team will look for them, but Bridget thinks it might not be until morning. He thinks the time will pass quickly. She thanks him for looking for her; he's just glad he found her and promises to get them out. He tells her to come over by him; she leans her head on his chest and he hold her there.
Amber and Clarke return to her rental. Dying to see what's going on in the shaft, she tunes in her monitor. Clarke asks if she has to use the word "dying," especially since the temperature's supposed to drop another 10 degrees. Watching Ridge hold Bridget on the monitor, Amber says to herself that the two of them should get cozy: after all, she knows Ridge wants Bridget, and they look so cute there on camera. She "tells" Ridge to smile for the camera, since it'll be the last time he smiles for a very long time!
