Thomas isn't happy being at the cabin.
At the Forrester cabin at Big Bear, Brooke, Ridge, Bridget, Thomas and Nick chat over dinner. Bridget says it's been a long day. Thomas says he came because they asked him to, but he's not happy about it. Ridge tells Thomas that being here didn't put him in this mood. Thomas doesn't want to talk about Amber. Nick tells Thomas that there's nothing wrong with being single: just look at him and Bridget. Thomas doesn't think Bridget will be single for long, and he doubts he'll ever meet anyone else like Amber. Nick says he can relate and recalls a wild girl he knew when he was Thomas's age. Ridge asks Nick to stop there; he knows Thomas isn't happy, but he won't let even the memory of Amber Moore bother this family ever again. Brooke tells Thomas he doesn't need a relationship at his age. But if he wants one, Nick says, talk to Bridget: she did a good job matching him up with an animal like Sasha. She was hot? Thomas asks. No, Nick says, she was an animal. An orangutan, Bridget explains, with the same social skills and habits as Nick. Everyone laughs. Bridget says that Nick was actually a perfect gentleman on his date with Sasha. Nick offers Thomas Sasha's "tree number," but Thomas declines.
Brooke tells Nick he'll someday find the right woman - or primate, Thomas quips. Nick asks if skewering guests is their idea of fun. It's more fun than playing board games, Bridget laughs. Nick says he's partial to cards when it comes to games. Bridget suggests a puzzle instead, but Thomas thinks he'd rather turn in. Ridge agrees. Nick takes that as his queue to leave, since he has a meeting at Marone tomorrow. Bridget and Brooke think the roads are too icy tonight, so Nick agrees to stay and bunk with Thomas, who heads off to bed. Brooke suggests to Ridge that they do the same; Ridge tells Nick not to keep Bridget up late and heads to the bedroom with his wife. That leaves Bridget and Nick alone, wondering what to do.

Clarke still wants to know what Amber is up to.
Amber's in her rental cabin, watching the Forresters through her telescope. She blames Ridge for her not being in that cabin right now. Clarke suggests that they follow the Forresters' lead and have some dinner, but Amber can only think about the look she saw on Thomas's face. She's sure Thomas misses her, which is why she wants to get to work on her plan. She shows Clarke on the map around where the mine shaft should be and tells him to get his coat. Clarke asks again what her plan is and what's in her mystery box. Amber says he only needs to know that she's here to get rid of the almighty Ridge. She takes the box and they head out. Soon after, they find the mine shaft; After Clarke helps her unseal it, Amber hands him a ladder and tells him to hold it while she goes down. As Amber straps her box to her back, Clarke reminds her of the dangers of going into an abandoned mine shaft. She says that's why she needs him to hold on tight; if she drops the box, she says, her plan won't work. Clarke says the ladder's secure, so Amber makes her way down.

Amber's still determined to stop Ridge's arrogance.
After slowly climbing down with Clarke's help, Amber works below and soon comes back up. Clarke has a bad feeling and again asks what was in the box; Amber tells him to forget it and help her cover the mine shaft with branches. But someone will miss the hole and fall in if they do that, Clarke argues. Before Amber can answer, she gets a call on her cell from Thomas, who wants to make sure she's OK. She says it's been hard knowing his family's caused him to lose faith in her. She wants him to know that she really didn't want to make trouble, but his father was determined to make it look like she was rather than face his mistakes. That's why the whole family needs a wake-up call, especially Ridge. Thomas says he doesn't want to get into this. He still feels what she did was wrong and hurtful. She says she'll never get a fair shot while his dad is around and then tells him she had to go. Thomas tells her not to blame his dad. She says she loves him and wants him to remember that, no matter what happens. She ends the call. Clarke, having overheard, asks if she's sure she's doing the right thing. Someone has to stop Ridge's arrogance, she says, and it looks like it has to be her.

Nick and Bridget keep warm together.
Back in the cabin, Bridget brings Nick some cocoa and thanks him for cheering Thomas up. Nick says he was glad to do it, even if it meant giving everyone a laugh at his expense. Bridget says they were laughing WITH him. Nick recalls her laughing the loudest. She guesses he just has that effect on her. He asks if he amuses her. Among other things, she says. And are those other things apish? he asks. Or unsophisticated? She says he's rough around the edges. And that won't change, he says. She doesn't want to change a thing. As they sit on the floor, he thanks her for inviting him, even if it meant being on a freezing cold mountain and not getting to that puzzle. Bridget says he's a good friend. Is that what they are? he asks. As they sit there, Bridget looks at Nick and flashes back to times spent with him to the tune of Nick singing "Dancin' in the Moonlight." She recalls Nick singing at the Jackie M party; the date with Sasha; his acting like an ape and throwing her on the sofa; and the Jackie M party again. He sees she's cold, so he wraps a blanket around her and holds her.

Ridge suggests that Nick and Bridget are more than friends.
Brooke and Ridge are in their bedroom, recalling all the memories they shared in this cabin. Brooke just wishes this memory didn't have to end tomorrow, but she doesn't feel right keeping Hope and R.J. cooped up here. Ridge says he spoke to Eric, who will be glad to have her back. He thinks maybe this wasn't the right time to leave town with everything going on back home. Brooke thinks they needed this, and Nick and Bridget are having fun. Speaking of those two, Ridge points out they're becoming close. Brooke says they're friends, but Ridge thinks it might be more. He asked Nick about it, but Nick never got a chance to answer. Brooke says it's clear that Nick cares about Bridget and wants to help her, but she thinks that's it. She says Bridget isn't up to dating anyone and is too smart to let anything happen with her mom's former lover. Ridge asks Brooke if she thinks Nick still has feelings for her. She says Nick's moved on, so when he does find love, it won't be with her daughter. She's sure they're just friends, but to make Ridge feel better, she agrees to keep an eye out. But right now, the only ones she wants to keep an eye on are R.J. and Hope, so she goes to check on them.

Brooke gets an eyeful.
In the cabin, Nick asks Bridget if she's still cold. She says she's fine but asks if she's crushing him. He says she isn't. They realize it's getting late, and since Nick has a meeting tomorrow, they think they should call it a night. Bridget looks at him and says goodnight. He reaches over, caresses her face and kisses her. He pulls back, but then leans in and kisses her again. Behind them, Brooke comes into the room: she sees the kiss and is shocked.
