Thomas listens to the good news from Dr. Sobel.
|
Thomas and the twins stop by the hospital to see Hope. They promise to take her to the zoo and play all the games she wants now that she's better. Nick comes in and hears Hope's social calendar filling up. That's because they miss having Hope around, Thomas says. Brooke asks Nick where Bridget is; he says that he left her a message and bets that she's busy planning a homecoming party. Thomas asks Hope if she knows what that means. "Ice cream!" Hope cries out in delight. Dr. Sobel then comes in and tells them that Hope can go home today, although he wants Brooke to bring her for a follow-up next week. Hope asks if she can go swimming; the doctor doesn't see a medical reason why not, but he thinks they should wait until after the follow-up to be sure. Brooke asks Hope if she really wants to go swimming. Hope says she's not afraid. That's because she's the bravest little girl he knows, Nick tells Hope. Everyone agrees. Brooke reaches out to Nick's arm and gazes at him.

Brooke tells Hope she's glad to have her little angel back.
|
As Thomas and the twins leave, Brooke hugs them goodbye and thanks them for coming. Nick is joking around with Hope, but he then gets serious and says that he has to talk to her about something. He knows she may not remember how she got hurt, but it was his fault, and he's sorry. He was supposed to watch her, and he didn't, and that was the worst thing he ever did. Hope says she was swimming and got caught. But it wasn't her fault, Brooke says. Nick agrees: it was his fault, which is why he promises her never to look away from her ever again. Hope sees Brooke about to cry and says that Mommy is sad. No, Brooke says, she's just glad to have her little angel in her life again. "Me?" Hope asks. Yes, Brooke says, telling Hope she loves her. Nick then tells Hope that they never want to lose her. He asks Hope if she can forgive him. She says yes; he makes her repeat it, only this time, louder and with a smile. She does. Nick hugs her and kisses her, promising never to let her down again, as Brooke looks on.

Nick shows Hope how much he loves her.
|
As Nick lies in Hope's bed with Hope on his lap, Hope asks if Mommy is mad at him. At first, Brooke says, she was; she was scared of losing her precious Hope. Nick says that Mommy was also mad, but she had a right to be, because of his big mistake. But just like Hope, Brooke forgave him. Brooke adds that she knows Uncle Nick didn't mean to hurt Hope, and that's why she forgave him. "You love him," Hope tells Brooke. Taken aback, Brooke says that they all love Uncle Nick. And they all love her, Nick tells Hope. How much? Hope asks. Nick takes her arms, spreads them out and says, "this much!" All around the world? Hope asks. Yes, Nick says, laughing and holding her. All the way around the world, he repeats before looking at Brooke and adding, and back again. He smiles at Brooke.
Meanwhile, up at Big Bear, a fully clothed Bridget is sleeping on the couch. As she wakes up, she asks herself what she's doing here, but she then remembers that Nick is with her mom, and she had nowhere else to go. She checks her cell phone and sees a message; thinking it could be about Hope, she checks it and finds a message from Nick. He says that Hope wouldn't let him go home last night, so he stayed there with her and Brooke. He then tells her that Thomas and the twins were there, and everything looks good for Hope. The message ends with him saying he loves her and asking her to call him. Bridget realizes that Nick is with her mother. Recalling what she witnessed between her mom and Nick last night, she gets angry, trying to convince herself that Nick wouldn't do this to her. She takes her keys to leave - and as she opens the door, she finds Stephanie standing there!
Stephanie says that she saw Bridget's car outside. Bridget asks her why she's here. It's her cabin, Stephanie reminds her, so she thought she'd spend some time here, although she wouldn't have if she knew Bridget would be here with Nick. Nick's not here, Bridget says. Stephanie senses something wrong. Bridget asks her to leave, but Stephanie refuses to go until she hears what happened with Nick. They sit down on the couch. Before long, Stephanie laments that no one called her about Hope. She'll be fine, Bridget says. Stephanie hopes Brooke isn't alone at a time like this. She's not, Bridget says, asking why Stephanie even gives a damn. Stephanie guesses from Bridget's tone that Nick is with Brooke and can't believe that Brooke would forgive Nick after Hope almost drowned. She did, Bridget says, asking what the big deal is. The big deal, Stephanie tells Bridget, is that she spent the night here - and given Brooke's history with Nick, she has to wonder what Bridget isn't telling her. Bridget doesn't want to even talk to Stephanie after her phony heart attack. Stephanie says that what she did isn't important: what's important is that she cares about Bridget and knows her better than Bridget knows herself. She guesses that Bridget saw something between Brooke and Nick at the hospital, something brought on by Hope's accident that showed that Nick is still in love with her mother!

Stephanie tries to get Bridget to face the truth.
|
Bridget tells Stephanie to shut up, but Stephanie presses her. Finally, Bridget admits that she saw her mother and her fiance, looking at each other and touching each other. Nick never looks at her that way, she notes. And Hope was there, she adds. They weren't doing anything improper, but the three of them looked like a family, and she felt like the odd woman out, because the man she loves is in love with her mother. She asks how she could believe Nick's claims to love her. He loves her, Stephanie says, but... He loves her mother more, Bridget says. Stephanie reminds Bridget that Ridge rejected Brooke, so now Brooke has made her move on Nick. Bridget says that her mom did nothing wrong, but Stephanie disagrees. She thinks this is Brooke following her typical pattern of needing a man, with Nick being her man of the moment. Bridget says that Stephanie is just saying that because she hates Brooke, and she doesn't want to be influenced by that hatred. Her mother would never hurt her. And as for Nick, he's just being a friend to her mom, since Ridge abandoned her. Stephanie warns Bridget not to let history repeat itself. If she does, Bridget says, it will be her own fault, since she's the one who involves herself with men who were involved with her mom. And given the way she repeats that pattern, she thinks there must be something wrong with her.
Stephanie tells Bridget that she's wrong: it IS Brooke's fault. She says that mothers are supposed to protect their daughters, but Brooke instead has abused Bridget, psychologically and emotionally. And like many abuse victims, Bridget has forgiven her abuser. Brooke has pulled Bridget in with her little act, she explains, to the point where Bridget, looking for a mother's love, abuses herself by forgiving Brooke. She knows that Bridget doesn't want to lose her mother, but at the same time, she thinks Bridget has to face the truth of what's going on. She knows Bridget can sense in her heart that she's right, and the only way for Bridget to heal herself and be free is to admit what Brooke did to her. Bridget at first refuses, but Stephanie keeps pressing her. Finally, Bridget comes out and says it: her mother abused her and her trust, first with Deacon, and now with Nick. She recalls how Brooke swore she would never hurt her that way again - but she has. She saw them. With the way they were holding each other, Bridget saw it happening again, and she prays to God to make it stop. Brooke is her mother, she cries. She can't be doing this to her again. She looks to Stephanie and pleads for her to tell her that Brooke isn't doing this to her, but Stephanie just looks at her.
