Nick is stunned by Bridget's revelation.
|
On The Shady Marlin, a smiling Bridget apologizes to a stunned Nick, places his hands on her tummy and tells him that their baby is alive. She knows it was wrong to lie to him, but she snapped after she found him with her mother when she came to tell him about the baby. The insecurities she felt about her mother with Deacon and Ridge came back. She had to know if Nick would choose her or her mother if there was no baby, so she came up with this insane plan to test his commitment. When they were on the beach and she lied that she'd aborted their child, she saw the pain in his eyes and knew it was wrong. That's why she's here now, to tell him the truth and put the insanity behind them, so they can raise their child together. Nick is silent; Bridget begs him to stay something, but all he can angrily reply is, "a test?" He walks away in disgust, but she follows him. She says that she's sorry; she knows it was wrong. He asks how she could just stand there on that beach and watch his world collapse around him. She tells him that she almost put a stop to it, but her insecurities took her to a dark place where she had to know if he would go running to her mother. She knows it sounds crazy, and she understands if he's angry about what she did, but she did it for their baby. She had to know if he was committed to their child. If she didn't know from all their talks about raising a family, Nick says, then she obviously wasn't listening. She says she was, but she just never felt it. But she knows now, she insists. She begs Nick to forgive her, but he just walks away.

Bridget asks Nick for his forgivenesss.
|
Bridget seems surprised; she knows this is a lot for Nick to absorb, but she thought he'd be relieved that their child is alive. He says that he is relieved. Then why can't he forgive her? she asks. He asks how she can stick a knife in his heart and play with his emotions, only to ask him to just forget it and act like nothing's changed, because he's changed! He thought she killed their child and he blamed himself, and he was ready to take his boat out into that violent storm - and maybe he'd have been better off if he did! But he didn't, she says. Now she is here with their child, a child that they can raise together. A surprised Nick asks if she really expects that after what she put him through, and he wonders if she knows what this has done to her mother. She admits that she owes her mom an apology, but she was afraid she would lose him to her mother and couldn't let that happen. She knows now that she should have known better. Nick insists on telling Brooke right now. She goes to call, but he says they have to do this in person. He turns to leave, but she stops him and tells him that her mom will understand and forgive her. They have to work this out, she insists, as there's a child to think about it. She puts her arms around his neck and hugs him, but he's not returning the embrace. He says they have to go, so they leave.

Eric is stunned by what Brooke tells him.
|
Meanwhile, Eric drops by Brooke's house to see Bridget; he heard from Stephanie about Bridget's pregnancy and is concerned about his daughter. He's also worried because Stephanie told him that Bridget was upset about Brooke and Nick and asks Brooke what's going on. Brooke hesitantly tells him that there's no easy way to say this; he tells her to spit it out, so she tells him that Bridget walked in on her and Nick and then decided to terminate the pregnancy. Eric is stunned, although he can't really blame Bridget after what she saw. What she THOUGHT she saw, Brooke clarifies. It was all a big misunderstanding. She and Nick tried to explain that to Bridget and they both understand that they played a part in it. As bad as things got, though, she still thinks all this may have been for the best. Eric asks how she can say that this is best for anyone. Because Bridget has good instincts, she says; she doesn't agree with what Bridget did, but it's obvious that Bridget saw something about Brooke and Nick that even they couldn't see. He asks what she's saying; she replies that she and Nick were finally honest with each other about their feelings, feelings that Bridget always knew were there. She thinks Eric is the only person she can tell this to, but he tells her that he doesn't want to hear it. She still goes ahead, since she needs him to understand that she and Nick kept trying to explain their feelings away, until there was no explanation left other than the truth. And the truth, she adds, is that she and Nick love each other and have for a long time!
Eric puts his hands on Brooke's shoulder and asks her to explain this to him. All her life, he recalls, she thought Ridge was her destiny. Brooke admits that she thought that, and she was so obsessed with that belief that she never saw Nick standing right there, ready to love her. Eric can't believe that she's saying this about their daughter's fiance, and he asks if she's forgotten what happened with Deacon. She asks if he really thinks she wanted to take another man from their daughter. He doesn't know, but he suggests that she tell him. She explains that she and Nick were not going to act on their feelings. Nick blamed himself for what Bridget did, she says. And well he should, Eric adds. Brooke says she and Nick were both to blame for that horrible tragedy - but out of that tragedy, she found a love she's been searching for all her life with Nick. She finally has a chance at happiness. And while Bridget turned her back on Nick, Brooke has no plans of doing that, not now and not ever! Eric reminds Brooke that she had unsuccessfully moved on in the past, with Thorne and with him. She says this is different. She knows there is a lot to overcome. Especially their daughter, Eric says, which is why he hopes Bridget is half as strong as Brooke thinks. He doesn't think Bridget could stand being betrayed by her mother again and leaves in disgust.
When Nick and Bridget arrive, Brooke is glad to see them. Bridget gives her mom a hug and explains that she and Nick talked about everything. There are still some issues that need to be discussed, but Bridget knows that Brooke loves her, which is why she hopes they can work their issues out. She stars off by hoping that Brooke will forgive her for saying and doing such hurtful things. Nick tries to interrupt a few times by calling out Brooke's name, but Bridget keeps going on about the pain she must have caused her mother. Brooke tells Bridget not to blame herself; Bridget says that she's just glad that Brooke had Nick to turn to. Nick tells Bridget to tell her mother. Bridget tells Brooke that she gets what Brooke's relationship with Nick is about now, and she's sorry she let her insecurities blow it out of proportion. She has apologized to Nick, and now she needs to apologize to Brooke too. Brooke says there's no need to apologize for anything. Nick shouts, "Bridget, TELL HER, NOW!" Bridget then starts to tell Brooke about the test she came up with, to see if Brooke or Nick would give into their feelings for each other. The truth is that she didn't have an abortion. She just told them she did as part of her plan to test them, and to see how they'd react.

Brooke is shocked to learn that Bridget did not end her pregnancy.
|
Brooke looks to Nick, and then to Bridget; she asks Bridget, "You're having Nick's baby?" Yes, Bridget says, she is - and that means Brooke is going to be a grandmother. Brooke starts breathing heavy and loses her balance as Bridget comes over. She can see how upset Brooke is, which is why she really needs Brooke to forgive her. She wants to get married and to have the life with Nick and their baby that Nick always promised, but she can't do that unless Brooke forgives her; that's why she hopes Brooke can find it in her heart to forgive her. A shocked Brooke looks to Nick, who remains silent.
